"Cuba, a Moveable Nation"
Fundamental questions regarding what constitutes a nation in the context of movement and displacement inform a long tradition of Cuban art. This presentation will discuss the impulse in contemporary Cuban diasporic art to forge a set of fundamental motifs and elements that articulate a national identity and connect their work to a longer cultural tradition of modernist or vanguardia art and writing, which emerged following the establishment of the Republic in 1902.
