World AIDS Day
The MOSAIC office, the LGBT Resource Center, the UCCS Pre-Health Society and the Southern Colorado AIDS Project are sponsoring a display of the world famous NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt. UCCS will host 4 of the 12x12ft blocks of this tapestry which represents over 94,000 individuals who have lost their lives to AIDS. The Quilt will be on display December 2nd-December 5th in the University Center.
Additionally the Southern Colorado AIDS Project will provide FREE HIV Testing for anyone interested in knowing their status. Every 9.5 minutes someone is infected with HIV in the U.S. therefore we want to encourage everyone to get tested and learn their status! Testing will be: December 4th | 11am-3pm | University Center 124
Our main event for World AIDS Day is our "Living with HIV" Speakers Panel. A panel of HIV+ individuals will discuss their personal experiences with contracting the disease, living HIV today and protecting yourself. In this respectful environment we will listen to how HIV has impacted the lives of Colorado Springs residents and their families. The event is: December 4th | 7pm | University Center 122
HIV and AIDS can affect anyone regardless of gender, race, nationality, age, sexual orientation, ability and any other factors; as such I would like to encourage everyone to experience The Quilt and the "Living with HIV" Speakers Panel. Please, encourage students, faculty, staff and friends to attend these events! For any questions please contact: firstname.lastname@example.org or 255-3447
