Vocalist Brianna Hatfield will be performing selections from the eccentric and beautiful works of Gabriel Fauré in a set titled Cinq Melodie, a cycle of five French songs that uses a unique harmonic language to communicate the poetry of Paul Verlaine. She will also be performing the charming and precise works of Clara Schumann in a set of songs titled Sechs Lieder, a cycle of six German songs set to the poetry of Heinrich Heine, Emanuel Geibel, and Friedrich Rückert. These songs all dance around themes of romance and distant memory, and create a deep sense of longing that intertwines with a dreamlike atmosphere.
Zach Sherwood's recital includes several different genres and textures of music, ranging from a string quartet to cymbal soundscapes. Expect your definition of music to be challenged, as the pieces you will hear are quite strange and abstract, utilizing many different avant-garde composition and voicing styles. Zach invites you to come and be a part of the textural space and sonic landscape he has designed, with its execution aided by Mareena Crozier and Ethan Alexander.
