Confluence: Linda Fleming

Linda Fleming is an artist whose work makes physical such impermanent elements as wind, air, light and shadow. This major solo exhibition will feature works in steel, wood, rubber, felt, and paper, and includes two monumental scale public works at the Ent Center for the Arts. Fleming is best known for her large-scale outdoor sculptures that draw from the desert and mountain environments surrounding her three studios in the Bay Area, Nevada's desert and Southern Colorado's Huerfano Valley. She is a founding member of the artists' community Libre in Gardner, Colorado, where she maintains a studio that she single-handedly built.

Fleming's works have been exhibited widely in public spaces, galleries, and museums in New York, Chicago, Miami, Santa Fe, the Bay Area and beyond. Recent installations and commission: the International Quilt Study Center (Lincoln, Nebraska); the Berkeley Art Museum; Oakland Museum of California; Stanford Museum of Art; and Nevada Art Museum. Fleming has received awards from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation, Art Matters, and the Athena Foundation. She studied at Carnegie Mellon University. She was awarded CCA's Distinguished Faculty award and recently retired after 30 years as chair of the sculpture program.
