As we strive to be an inclusive community, the University of Colorado and UCCS has continued to roll out features within university systems in support of students, allowing them to better identify themselves.
Many of our community members use a name other than their legal first name to identify themselves. While individuals of all gender identities may prefer a nickname or a middle name to a given first name, the issue can be especially important for transgender or gender non-conforming individuals. To encourage a more open and welcoming campus community environment, the CU system has established a process whereby students have the option to use a "preferred" first name on campus wherever possible. We strive to have this name appear wherever a legal name is not necessary. Additionally students now have the ability to list pronouns that will appear in class rosters.
You are encouraged to attend an informational brownbag session where we will discuss the significance of these changes and provide guidance on navigating processes. Additionally we will discuss current resources related to LGBTQ+ identities, Pride Affinity groups (student, faculty, and staff) and answer questions/hear concerns you might have about LGBTQ+ inclusion on campus. You are welcome to bring your brownbag lunch. Light refreshments and snacks will be served.
